Sorry, punks, but one of your trademark looks has been co-opted by the Smug Mummy set.
It's a funny thing how studs and spikes, once used to signal a person's outsider status, have entered the fashion mainstream this year. Alas, where Valentino goes, I will follow, albeit at a much, much lower price point.
I love how a well-deployed spike or stud detail can toughen up an otherwise girly-girl ensemble. After all, even a retired lawyer type needs to feel a little rebellious every now and again (even if she totally isn't, ahem).
Like with any trendy thing, however, I don't want to get too spendy with it; this isn't a look I'd wear head-to-toe but would do somewhere in the accessory or shoe details. Here are some budget-friendly ways to do it:
As soon as next month's shopping budget allows - feel free to hurry up and get here, October! - I'll snap up one of these, maybe a bracelet to mix up my currently prep, girly stack*. Aren't I just soooooo subversive?!
*Although said stack is dwindling - it's less arm party now and more demure coffee hour. If accessories had coffee hours, that is. Whatever.
What do you think - too tough for you, or pretty in punk?

Speaking of fun accessories - *cue dramatic music* - stay tuned for a GIVEAWAY tomorrow . . .

I got a pair of spikey-Valentiono-esque flats at Tar-jay a few years ago and I ALMOST got rid of them last year. I'm so glad I didn't!
I'm still lusting after those shoes...I just don't think I would get enough wear out of them. I'm still probably to good girl for this trend. *Boring*
Melissa- your title made me open immediately. I couldn't wait to see which spikes the pretty mommy was wearing! I read a post from another fashion blogger that I follow and thought of you. She gave a little tutorial on how to mix and match prints... I thought she had some great points!

I love the mini spikes on the flats... but I think the "mini" part is what gets me. The crazy, bedazzled heels with the scary spikes, like, the may-puncture-my leg-if-I-cross-it-too-quickly spikes... um, no. Not for the Pretties. But the minis? Yes. Those we can do.
I like it. Spunky punky! Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog! xo
I just finished up my post for next week. So excited to get myself together to participate.
I like this trend and would love that bracelet, but I'm afraid I might puncture myself! :)
