Smug Mummy Style: The Emergency Budget Maxi

"Sometimes glamour is all that keeps me from teetering into the abyss," a wise, beyond chic friend recently told me.

Not to be melodramatic and vague - but let me go right ahead! - it has been A Couple of Weeks here at Pretty HQ. Unfortunately we've had another family health situation pop up; this one isn't my story to tell, but any good thoughts you can send our way are much appreciated.

***end vague non-statement***

And so I found myself in need of some sartorial cheer this morning, feeling grateful for my morning sitter break to run some errands and have lunch with a friend and, you know, not be sitting around worrying for a few short hours.

Of course, attempts at "glamour" here in Stay-at-Home-Momland are a far, far different thing now, probably best described as "I may have taken a shower and have a reasonable approximation of an outfit on." It's more along the lines of that low-key, nautical maxi look we discussed, pairing my favorite Old Navy dress with a sea-worthy cuff from that same wise friend . . .

. . . and yes, today you get MEMEMEME photos - please enjoy my thoughtful gaze into the middle distance:

(I'm not only wearing sunglasses to hide my crow's feet but also to shield my delicate eyes from the 102 DEGREE DEATH HELL TEXAS HEAT SOS) (Ahem) / dress (sold out online, similar here) / sunglasses / belt (cheap & old - insert joke here similar) / watch / cuff (similar here) / earrings (old, similar here) / bag / sandals (similar here)

Yes, I changed into more practical shorts & a tee when I came home to the wee CEO - because nothing says "glamour" like avoiding a wardrobe malfunction - but it was nice to get a little spiffed up, problem-free adult time this morning.

This too shall pass. In the meantime- fake it 'til you make it, right? Right???

You look fabulous and tiny even in horizontal stripes, which is something I aspire to, myself. Glad you enjoyed your morning out!

You, my dear, are a VISION. Mega like, I want to be get to rock smug mommy style like you one day. I may need to rent a baby to do so, but I'm adding it to my bucket list.

Positive vibes re: vague family medical situation. Love!

Hi Friend! I kept meaning to say how much I liked the bracelet, but kept getting distracted by the conversation. You looked fab - meanwhile, I was hoping that it wasn't too obvious that my hair was twisted up b/c I had gotten out of the shower not 10 minutes before.

Glad to be a distraction from health issues - and wishing good things for you.

Sending all my good thoughts your way!

I have a very similar (solid J.Crew) maxi dress and I never thought to put a belt with it. Come on, Henry! Mama's taking you belt shopping!
