(I'm totally kidding, by the way, except about the summer house. I'm deadly serious about spending someone else's money on a beachfront manse one day. And happy hour just goes without saying, right?)
(Right.) (Ahem.) (Parentheses.)
Anyhow - after yesterday's Smug Eco, you might think I'd be on sabbatical from Target, my favorite
Yes, my avarice is outpacing my moral outrage. I'm nothing if not consistent with my principles.
Strangely, the men in my life are less excited about Target special collections than I am, so I haven't yet made it in person to investigate. Instead I took to the interwebs to order a few pieces and ogle many more:
Whether I keep the pieces I ordered - the above dress & cardigan, as well as this tunic - will depend on the quality, which is always a concern with these Target special collections. So long as the in-store returns are free, however, I'm taking my chances - after all, surely these lanai drinking Palm Beachy clothes count as an investment in my imaginary future?
I will update this post re: collection quality as soon my items arrive. Naturally I'll expect you to be on festively pink pins and needles until then.
Edited to Add: I was able to check out the women's and men's clothing selections at my local store, and my overall impression is - pretty good! With a couple of exceptions, it isn't punching above its weight class - you won't mistake it for Lilly or Milly (or any other preppish retailers ending in "-illy") - but what I saw was stylish and mostly well made for the price.
In particular, I loved the jacket I posted above (both in coral & navy) in person - gorgeous lining, on-trend colors, and the quality stitch/seam-wise looked good.
The men's section is a little - shall we say, vibrant - for my man's tastes. However, on reader Meredith's suggestion (thanks, Meredith!), I snagged this beachy chic shirt (or, as the AH would call it, "a shirt") for the mister.

Did any of you check out the Webster collection in person? Thoughts on that lanai happy hour proposition?

I had big plans to go check out the collection tonight {I have designs on the Golden Girls-tastic palm maxi dress} because husband was supposed to be away for work. He called very excited to tell me his work trip had been postponed. I know I should be tickled to spend the evening with him, but really I'm just sad that I can't go spend a small fortune on my pretend-Palm Beach wardrobe!!
I did check it out on Sunday and I'm proud to say I was the only Webster-crazed woman in the store! I must not have been the only one that day though because some of the household goods had already been wiped from the shelves. With that said, the quality is good for Target but not great. There was a one-piece coral dress that was super cute both on and off the hanger but alas, my pasty white skin couldn't pull the color off. I'll anxiously await your review. I hope you enjoy your pieces!
I did check it out in person yesterday, and even tried on a few pieces. But combo price tag + not being completely in love with any piece I tried on = no buy. But the store I went to didn't have all the pieces they have online, so who knows how it would've turned out otherwise. I do like that cardigan.
I tried on the dress you have in your set. I'm 5'8 and my usual size was a wee bit short. Snagged the next size up, with crossed fingers on the way to the register. Trying it on tonight!
Those coral wedges might have to come home to live with me.
I went, not expecting to really find anything I HAD to have. But, well, the Webster line has the perfect shade of coral in it! I got the tank, the white tunic with coral and the navy print tunic. In my defense, the coral exactly matches my Princess Catherine coral jeans!
I'll see what you think, but I did not think the sweater was of good quality. The seams didn't match up well and you could just tell it wasn't "nice". It is super cute though. I got a different dress than the one you have posted but in the same print. It's got buttons on the top and a tie at the waist. I have to wait til baby is here (next 48 hours!!!!!!) to try it on, so we'll see if it gets returned or not.
I was really NOT impressed by the other shops. Our store isn't the biggest Target in the world, but 5 nailpolishes, a few makeup cases, and some soap does not make up a shop in my brain. I didn't check the dog one, but the home one also had very little quantity (and I wasn't impressed by it anyway). Lots of talk for very little stuff, IMO. Webster definitely had the cutest line there!!
I went first thing Sunday morning. I was excited because my family just moved to Miami and I thought a new Miamian definitely needed a dress with flamingos and palm trees on it!
On Saturday I ran down to the real Webster on South Beach to get the skinny. I told my kids we were on a spy mission and we had fun... I put a little video on my website if you want to check it out.
Anyway, I got my husband a few pieces for his beach wardrobe (which consisted of basically zero items). The white pants, orange shorts and white bathing suit fit him great. We got the blue pin striped button down that goes with all 3 and I grabbed a Mossimo dark denim shirt to rotate in as well. He wasn't sure about the "ruffles" on the striped shirt, but I assured him they were pleats and he decided it was fine for the beach.
I really love the coral shorts and the swing navy top to go with them. I think that looks so cute with a navy blazer, which I already have, but if someone didn't the one in their line was pretty cute! I also bought both pink flamingo "flowy" top and skirt... belted it looks like a dress. Now I feel like I can really fit in! :)
My sis and I stopped in Target on Sunday. We had just shopped the outlets for for 4 hours and nothing from the line in the store was really calling to me.
I looked at one of the maxi dresses, and realized one marked a 4 was more like a size 24. Obviously this made me a little curious about the quality of the pieces. I hope some of the pieces you picked work out!
I looked at them this weekend and I wasn't overall impressed. I was excited for the shops, and love target, but nothing that was IN store really wowed me. I might have to take another gander online because i'm loving the Webster earrings you posted.
I really want to know how that tunic fits. I adore the fabric, but it looks a little...billowy for my busty frame ;)
I plan to check it out on my lunch break today. I have high hopes for it but I'm afraid I'm going to be disappointed, as I sometimes am with these designers at Target. Fingers crossed that I'm not! Can't wait to hear your reviews of your purchases!
I am obsessed with the coral wedges! I haven't had a chance to go in person either, but plan to tomorrow night. I can't wait!
I really, really want that blazer. I don't have a blazer or a nice jacket - so I need one, right? :)-Beth
I went with H today and decided on 3 pieces to try (and that was pushing it!). I LOVED this shirt and will buy an extra as it will be a summer staple (and will probably get dirty). I think I might get the cardigan you posted above though my local store had it in a different color. I was surprised that my store was so well stocked!
