Multitasking, Smug Mummy Style

Of the many, many Captain Obvs. statements I make here about parenthood, this may take the (pink frosting, of course) cake, but - I'm a little Smugly impressed with the amount of things I've learned I can do all at once while parenting.

This morning, for example, I was doing my best to get primped Operation MILF style before running some errands. I double-checked my watch, noted that we'd have to hurry to make it home to maintain the all-hallowed nap schedule and hurried up my efforts - and then the wee CEO abruptly marched into my bathroom with all the stern seriousness of a third-world dictator (with apologies for the highly technical iPhone photos - shamefully, I have yet to reach that blogging state in which I'm surgically attached to my DSLR):

This is an excellent book if any of you are looking for an obsessed-with-transport toddler read, BTW.

Never mind that I was hunched over blow-drying my hair at the time - see that digit forcefully pointing at the book? Master P waits for no one when it comes to his literature, so on I went with my drying while reading *upside-down* about stuff like "combine harvesters" and "front loaders" and other things they don't sell at Nordstrom. We reached a high point when I managed to wield my lash curler while going over the "Tractors" (huh?) page.

It's a small mother-son moment, but when I think of what I've learned to do over the past 1.5 years, particularly back in the newborn days - anyone else eat their meals half-asleep (read: out of your mind with exhaustion) with one hand while rocking a colicky baby with the other? - I'm Pretty impressed with us.
