Operation MILF - Beauty Time-Savers

You know that friend who always looks perfectly pulled together - hair, makeup, and outfit all - despite having an impressive full-time job plus two-point-five adorable kids, a clean picket fence-y home, and adoring husband? Who gives you a dire case of the Kimberlys even on her off days?

I, uh, am not that friend. Not even one bit. With a mere one - albeit adorable - child, no (paid, at least) employ, and only one demanding Pug, many are the days where I barely manage to stab a mascara wand in the general direction of my eyeballs. While I'm attempting to have more pulled together days as part of this Operation MILF business, the wee dictator running Pretty HQ doesn't always allow the hair/makeup/clothes trifecta.

Plus, I'm lazy, yet vain. Whatever saves me time with the beauty foo-foo allows me to catch up on Facebook and the Real Housewives of OC reunion "Foreign Affairs" and "The Economist" during naptime.

For us mere, non-Kimberly mortals, I'm posting my time-saving beauty stuff here and, ahem, directing encouraging you to share your secrets in the comments. Please see the bit above about being lazy; don't think I won't try to trick you into writing this for me. I mean, it's the least you can do.

Secret the First: A good brow wax. I go once every three months, and for $20 I don't have to worry in between:

Secret the Second: Products for those "I don't have time to dry my hair / spackle my visage, but I'm not totally giving up & going the baseball hat route" days:

Them's some fancy, "Vogue"-style photography atop the Pretty HQ toilets right there.
Many of these have made Pretty appearances in pre-Master P times, but I include them here again since they've proved their worth post-MP. From left to right:

- Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($19): The Latisse-style lash potions don't work for me, so I'm standing by this standby until Master P agrees to let me out & pay for for lash extension appointments.

- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($32): Not the least expensive primer, but the best; on days I skip foundation I still use this to cut down on the Death Hell Texas Heat "shine" on my busier days.

- Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer (Light to Medium) ($10): This beats the famed, more expensive Laura Mercier tinted foundation in my book, and comes with step-skipping SPF & retinol bonus.

- Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel ($4): Moms-to-be, note that you need a wash-n-go hairstyle you can live with come baby days. Mine is beachy (read: messy) waves, and this gets the job done less expensively than the famed Bumble & Bumble alternative.

- CeraVe A.M. Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30 ($13): When I can't make it to the makeup bag & Smashbox, I settle for this moisturizer/SPF combo - the only such mix that doesn't irritate my eyes.

(Not Pictured): Jergens Foaming Moisturizer (Light to Medium) ($8): I was skeptical, but this foam (looks & feels like a hair mousse) works as well as Clarins, my pricey favorite.

On emergency days, simply ignore the above & just go straight to giant Eff-Off sunglasses and diamond studs. As one does.

What are your favorite time-saving products?

I can not tell you how much fun I find in reading posts along the lines of this one. I love reading what other people use in their daily routines!

I wish I could give some useful tips - the only area in which I am surprisingly high maintenance is makeup, so I can't help much there. I do despise real foundation, though - so I'm frequently found using a sweep of powder foundation only.

Hair wise, I am strictly a no blow drying kind of girl, which has always been my major morning time saver.

I have no kids now, so we'll see if I change my tune in a few years!

I am definitely into moisturizer and some earrings and big ol'sunglasses! It's just so easy!

Ok, so, first of all, you can go three months in between brow waxing?! I'm so jealous! I have some major caterpillars taking up residence on my forehead, and, sadly, I am not Brooke Shields, so, the look is not so good for me.

I'm a huge fan of the Jergens foam as well, love it! But, you also know that I'm newly obsessed with the Mystic spray stuff--that gives you a darker tan a bit faster I think.

My go-to quick fix is the Trish McEvoy Correct and Brighten pen thingy. It's an amazing concealer and brightener for those days when the dark circles just won't.go.away. It's a makeup bag staple for me!

I'm new to this mom gig and in major need of some tips! :) I'll have to check back and see if there are any other good additions!

Ps - please tell me you live in Houston.... I could have a real-life [not annoying] mommy friend. Sounds divine. ;)
