The Occasional, Yet Unfortunately Necessary, Sappy Post

Yesterday marked the AH's & my "date-a-versary". Five years since our first one.

You can stop laughing now.

As much as I'm usually allergic to obvious sentiment, I secretly enjoy that the AH & I have our little days, the ones that are just ours, the ones for which Hallmark hasn't made a card yet. It may be silly, it may be excessive, but it is ours. Plus, you know me well enough by know than to think I'd pass on a nice dinner opportunity.

Before I make an irreversible turn down Smug Married Lane, let me say this - I'm not claiming that my Pretty marriage is perfect. From Dog Poop Paralysis to actually serious issues, we deal with the same highs and lows as any couple.

Some bloggers believe that a blogger isn't being authentic unless his or her posts detail each and every "real" marital detail, both the good and the bad. While I like reading some such blogs, that isn't what I do here. Call me delusional, call me in denial, but this is my e-happy-place, a spot where I mostly like to memorialize the good*, marriage included.
*With the occasional mullet exception because, you know, MULLETS.

So if you'll forgive me the uncharacteristic lack of snark today, I'm feeling grateful. There aren't many areas in which I don't second guess myself - my greatest hits include the city I left behind, the colleges I attended, the career path I've taken, (and apparently things starting with the letter "C") - but my marriage is one area in which I don't look back. Not to say it will always be thus - I'm guessing it won't, but just for today, I am happy.

Relish in it all you must. Happy mariages don't seem to be in strong supply if you read the newspaer these days. I am happy to read about one that is. It gives me some hope. Happy date-a-versary.

I, too, must agree! I don't like to put my personal problems on display, but I like to think of my blog as a cheery one most of the time except for times like today when I include snippets about "poo" and things of that nature going on in my life. ha! Congrats on being together for so long. Best wishes to many more!

This is such a sweet and uncharacteristically unsnarky post! And I clearly mean that in the most complimentary of ways, because I love both sweet AND snarky posts. So, without further ado, happy 5 year date-aversary! :)

I love celebrating the date-aversary! Ours is next week, eight years! I think everyone should find little known reasons to celebrate!

Love this post!! Everyone has the right to be so in love with their husband, and I adore reading about it. It makes me happy that your heart is happy (even if I don't know you!)

I read your title and saw snappy not sappy so you can imagine my confusion. I was wondering when the snappy was coming out! Anyways, I'm glad my eyes fooled me and it was all about the good stuff! Happy d.a.v. :)

Fairly new reader here - just wanted to say I totally celebrate dateaversaries, too! In fact my new husband & I got married on our 7th dateaversary this past July. It's important to celebrate each other year-round for reasons big and small!

happy date-a-versary! and good for you for keeping the good and the pretty on your blog! :)

i think bloggers than bash their friends, family, and husbands are asking for trouble. it's disrespectful.

but telling the poop paralysis story is hilarious and a learning experience for all of us! :)

Congrats! We still remember our date-aversary each year, it happens to fall the day before Valentine's Day. Every year we celebrate V-day on the 13th. (Plus reservations are so much easier ; )

I love the date-a-versary! My husband and I have been married for almost 2 years but have been together for 6 (in October). I think celebrating that time together is important as well as our marriage anniversary. Enjoy spending time with your husband and remembering ALL of the years you've been together!

Even after 10 years of marriage we still celebrate our date-a-versary. It's a cute little ritual to recall the day we starting dating.

Oh Miss Pretty, this is so wonderful. Good for you deciding to revel in the good choice made on this front, that is just nifty. We are lucky girls in this respect, aren't we?!

Sending belated Date Anniversary hugs your way,

Every year, when I fill out a new calendar, I write down the date when Tool Man and I met and the date we went out for the first time. So the sap? It's good and necessary and whatever else it is. So I say congratulations to you!

I think it is super sweet to celebrate little personal anniversaries as a couple.

i love this post!!! marriage is usually pretty great and who wants to bash their spouse on the internet?! I love that you keep it pretty and fun. Happy date-aversary!!

Happy Date-a-versary! I'm glad we aren't the only ones who at least remember ours (but I'm thinking we need to get on your plan...any excuse for dinner out!!) I'm with you on the (lack of) spouse-bashing. Marrying Mr. Perfect is one of the best decisions I ever made -- so even if I'm annoyed, I try to post it with a funny slant...gotta keep the laughter going :)
