To that end, while I was mulling over tomorrow's first enthralling installment of Featured Blogger Fridays, my itchy Google finger let me towards that absolute finito of travel** & American lifestyle photography, Slim Aarons. I'm not sure what it is about his work - I don't mean this in the "I'm so retro! I love Sinatra! And martinis!" sense*** - but it just transports me to a different, more elegant place.

Mr. Aarons has made a previous appearance here at the Pretty, but in keeping with Monday's travel theme, I'm bringing you some of his best photos from abroad all in an attempt to distract you from the fact that I'm not actually coming up with anything creative here, again. This also gives us a welcome break from my shoppy, spendy posts of late. At worst, I imagine that these photos will make you want to seize your passport, quit your job, and head somewhere interesting. Given that I constantly live in this state of mind and have found myself less likely to act on it than I am to buy yet another purse, I'm going with the less expensive of two evils today. Positively frugal, no? Without further ado-do:

Lake Tahoe - it isn't "abroad" for the Americans here, but this is my blog & this California girl is going to feature one of her homeland's favorite vacation spots. Nanny nanny boo boo.

I would love to just peace out to Europe or Fiji and not know when I'm coming back, but (sigh) unfortunately that won't be happening anytime soon :)

Beautiful pictures! If I could go anywhere today, I'd love to head to Nothern Michigan for the Holiday weekend. Or Lake Tahoe....I've always thought it looks amazing there.
First off I'm very excited about my honeymoon to Disney World in 5 weeks but on a broader spectrum, next year, the future hubs and I are hoping to visit a few places in the next few years including New Orleans/Memphis trip, Peru and possibly either Australia or Japan for my 30th birthday! (My birthday falls on Girls Day - a Japanese holiday celebrating girls! HOW PERFECT!!!)

My best friend and I are planning on a trip to Finland and Estonia, super random but we've got free places to stay and you can't beat that! Love the pics :)

You know what I think makes me think of Sinatra and martinis (aside from you mentioning them, of course) when looking at these pictures? The coloring of the photos makes them look like still frames out of a technicolor movie...that and the "Retro-Euro Chic" subject matter (I totally made up that terminology!).

I am presently in a fit of vacation rage, but I think we have found another hotel on Exuma. After that, I'm hoping to convince Mr. A to go to the Maldives.
We are headed to Italy in September, but my travel pics never look like that. Usually there is one pic of me having a meltdown, one of Mr. Cult Diva asleep during a "cultural" experience, and the Teenager only takes pics of garbage or homeless people. Perhaps I just need to hire someone to take our travel pics.

I too studied abroad in Italy and I would love to return with my husband and do a more "mature" tour, if you will. Imagine - seeing the Sistine Chapel without a raging hangover! Novel, right?
But that Lake Tahoe picture took my breath away!!!!!!!!!
Also, you have to add Capri to Portofino if you haven't been there. Amazing.
