Secret Single Behavior, Thursday Night Edition

One of the things that They - you know, that mysterious "They" committee that comes up with the rules - don't tell you about marriage is how some of the really good bits are times spent apart.  Yes, apart.

Admittedly, for those of you with significant others working or stationed far away, I'm sure you've had quite enough of alone time and would cheerfully kick me for saying this, and understandably so. It is the couples who aren't separated by circumstance, but who choose to spend nearly every waking second together, that work together or took every class together - those are the ones that leave me entirely befuddled.  After all, how else can you truly appreciate one another if you don't have the occasional Secret Single Behavior ("SSB") evening alone?  Doesn't the time apart, secure that you will see your SO very soon, make the time apart delectable?  Am I right here?

When I do get the odd night to myself, I wish that I could tell you that I'm busy baking casseroles in the shape of a wee Birkin, all while balancing my checkbook & running the Junior League single-handedly & catching up on some light quantum physics* reading. In actual fact, if I'm not otherwise out with friends, my SSB checklist - how handy would this be for our young professionals' Martha-lite-omnimedia project, by the way? - goes something like this:

Facial Exfoliation / Pluckage - Check

Wine? - Check

George Forman-ed Meal du Jour? - Check

Magazine / Catalogue Reading? - Check

Ice Cream? - Check

Sauvignon blanc, Dreyer's rocky road, and unsupervised internet access. Please try to contain your overwhelming envy.

What does your typical SSB night include?

The Pooples is at the "Become A Partner at Our Firm Conference (If The Economy Doesn't Ruin That Dream)" which ironically takes place at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta. Thus, I am eating inordinate amounts of cereal, watching Grey's Anatomy and writing a list of things I want in this month's In Style.

I make half a box of pasta, cover it with half a brick of cheese, add a tad of broccoli and enjoy with a bottle of pinot noir. Whilst gorging on carbs and cheese, watch The Hills / America's Next Top Model / 80s Big Hair Movies. Extra points if wearing XXL sweatpants and a wife-beater with no bra. Clip toenails. Pluck in-grown bikini line hairs (yeah, i know, gross).

Then read some vampire books.

I get from 7 to 7:30 each night to myself - the hubs is giving the Kid a bath, it is my ME time. Or as close as I'm going to get for a while, anyway, lol.

Ice cream. Internet. Absolutely crappy junk TV. Coke - NOT diet (can't drink booze due to said Kid who relies on me for food, lol). And let the online shopping....begin! :)

Oh I love a good night alone. They are so rare with kids and all. My night looks a lot like yours. Twitter included. Usually a plate of pasta too. Oh and Maybe BBC Pride and Prejudice for the 1000th time. Have to have Mr. Darcy!

I love being alone.... mine contains sonic tater tots, (used to be wine), pretty woman, google reader, facebook, twitter, and long phone calls with my mom.

well since mr. m has been gone for the past 2.5 weeks, i have been lost reading stupid fanfiction and also writing my own story (one that is not related to twilight at all) and eating frozen dinners and popcorn.

I love those nights! Mine includes a chick flick or old episodes of Entourage, beer or wine and probably a facial mask..

Have a great weekend!

Alone nights are the best! I have very few of them, but those I do have are monopolized by cereal, ice cream, possibly chinese food, sitting aimlessly on the couch for hours reading magazines, and/or watching the Sex and the City movie. :)

Popcorn with chocolate chips (try it!), ice cream, "chick food" (i.e., from resturants he won't go to!) and chick movies not limited to Under The Tuscan Sun, Roman Holiday, the original Sabrina and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Oh, and early to bed. I need my beauty rest after all...

LOL! Love the mention of George Foreman. When hubby and I were DINKs, my SSB consisted of renting every possible British film at the video store...all the ones that my husband would not sit through (Mrs. Brown, Howard's End, Gosford Park, etc.) and potato chips and French onion dip. ha! High brow and low brow all mixed into one fun evening!

Now when hubby's traveling, I am so lame. I get the kids to bed and then I get in my bed to watch Anderson Cooper, read Coastal Living, and sometimes re-read my favorite parts of the Twilight books. :-)

I could live off of scrambled eggs or cereal and wine and fill my nights reading books, breaking only to watch my tv obsessions: Gossip Girl, Greys Anatomy or The Office. All of this while wearing a wife beater and sweats, natch. Hmmm, thinking I might need some of this SSB therapy...now where can I ship Hubs off to for a night??

I haven't had a fun one with other girls in way too long (we're planning one now)...but last night it included chinese food (from the container), a ton of hershey kisses smothered in peanut butter, Elle magazine and Survivor.

Oh YES you need some alone time!! I like to have a margarita or glass of wine! Read some magazines, blog, read books, or watch some trashy tv! Glorious!!

Reading...lots of reading. And sometimes baking so he has a surprise when he comes in the door. (Certainly not because I might want any of it, nay-nay!)

Have a wonderful weekend Miss Pretty!

Mimosas and tostitos + melted velveeta. Reruns of any teen drama, preferably Gossip Girl or O.C.

I do about the same as Kate above. Pound of pasta with parmesan/basil.I prefer a good New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc though with my pasta. Vampire books a must and yes! True Blood-season 1 coming out in the next few days. Or spending way too much time on Ebay.

Spending WAY too much time reading blogs, watching Sex and the City reruns, ice cream, and painting my nails. :)

After reading this I was REALLY looking forward to my Friday night sans hubby. I was hoping for dinner out, a nice glass of wine, and a good chick flick. Instead? The dog got sick and I spent the evening at the vet with a sick dog while they were discussing emergency surgery.. sans hubby.

I think I deserve a re-do.

I was on my way to the mall and The Hubster says "wait, I'll go with you". When I explained my SSB involved me trying on clothes to assess the progress of my workouts, he said "That's weird. Why don't you just weigh yourself"

Boys just don't understand.

Hmm, that would probably involve a dinner option from my single days which was generally "bowl of peas with possibly stuff on top and a bit of cheese" (look I just really like peas ok?), a glass of wine or scotch on the rocks and definitely a movie that the husband would NOT want to see probably involving romance and handsome style actor.

Mine involves reality TV Housewives of wherever or my new favorite Worlds Strictest parents...wine...and blogging...ahhhhhh alone time!
